Playground Edges: Questions Before Nearby Vegetation Treatment

Identify play surfaces, equipment and use patterns separately from surrounding vegetation.

By Wildfire Treatment Group.

Draw the distinction on the map

Mark the playground equipment, play surface, seating and adjacent vegetation as separate features. Tell the reviewer how the area is used and maintained. Do not assume a proposed ground application includes play surfacing, equipment or every planted area visible in the same photograph.

Resolve suitability and access

Ask the applicator to review the actual product instructions and site conditions before discussing scheduling. The property manager should clarify who can implement any approved access plan. Avoid generic assumptions about reentry or environmental suitability; the specific proposed work needs to answer those questions.

Keep the community informed

For a WTG inquiry, name the representative authorized to approve boundaries and communicate with residents. Keep any playground maintenance or construction schedule visible. Store the approved exclusions and completed-work record with the grounds file so future maintenance teams do not mistake an application beside the playground for treatment of the play area itself.
