Wildfire planning for properties near chaparral

Explore a site-specific approach to suitable vegetation treatment near chaparral, with local defensible-space guidance and landscape stewardship.

Understand the native setting

Chaparral is a shrub landscape, not simply unwanted brush. The National Park Service identifies chamise, manzanita and scrub oak among its characteristic plants. A property beside this vegetation needs planning that recognizes the native setting, the buildings and the way people use the site. WTG begins with those details when reviewing a potential treatment project.

Bring local guidance into the discussion

Defensible-space requirements and site restrictions need local confirmation. CAL FIRE’s guidance addresses vegetation maintenance and separation around structures. If you have inspection notes or an existing mitigation plan, share them with WTG. Retardant application should not be represented as satisfying a clearing requirement or as permission to alter protected vegetation.

Account for terrain and access

Photos should show the slope, the vegetation edge and the areas accessible from maintained ground. Mark the property boundary and any places a crew should not enter. A steep hillside can look close on a map while presenting a very different access problem on site. Review feasibility before treating a mapped footprint as an agreed project.

Define a selective application scope

WTG can discuss planned Komodo ground pretreatment for suitable areas after reviewing the proposed use and site conditions. Ask which vegetation would receive application and what preparation would be needed. The value of a focused proposal is clarity: it identifies a specific service within the property plan, without assuming an entire chaparral landscape should be sprayed.

Coordinate with the people caring for the land

Tell us about landscape contractors, habitat work, irrigation and any planned vegetation removal. Establish the order of work and who can authorize each area. Start a quote request with your address and photos, and describe the particular edge or location you want considered. That context supports a more useful discussion than acreage alone.
